Welcome to El Retiro Lodge, a riverside hostel in Lanquin made for travellers who want both connection and calm.

El Retiro is set on a hillside by the river, with stairs, uneven paths and different levels across the property. Some rooms and common areas require walking up and down, including access between the restaurant, rooms and shared spaces. For this reason, the hostel may not be the best fit for guests with reduced mobility or anyone who may find this layout physically challenging. If you are unsure, please contact us before booking and we will be happy to help.

Travelling to or from Lanquin is easy with our shared shuttle service. We offer popular routes connecting El Retiro with Antigua, Guatemala City, Flores, Panajachel and Rio Dulce, making it easier to plan your trip across Guatemala.
Our shuttles are a practical option for travellers looking for a straightforward journey, with comfortable seating, air conditioning and easy pick-up arrangements. If you are staying at El Retiro, some routes also give you the advantage of being among the first guests picked up.
FLORES
Flores is a colourful island town in Petén and a favourite base for travellers heading towards the Mayan sites and jungle landscapes of northern Guatemala. It is a relaxed and scenic stop with lakeside views, restaurants and an easy traveller feel.
RIO DULCE
Rio Dulce is a laid-back riverside destination known for its tropical scenery, boat journeys and access to one of Guatemala’s most scenic water routes. It is a great stop for travellers looking for nature, slower travel and a different side of the country.
Antigua Guatemala
Antigua Guatemala is one of the country’s most iconic destinations, known for its cobbled streets, historic churches, lively cafés and beautiful volcano views. It is a great stop for travellers looking for culture, atmosphere and an easy place to explore on foot.
PANAJACHEL
Panajachel is one of the main traveller bases around Lake Atitlán, known for its lake views, cafés, handicrafts and easy access to nearby villages. It is a popular stop for travellers looking for scenery, culture and a slower pace.
Payment Methods:
Cash in Guatemalan quetzales is recommended. Card payments are available at the only at the bar with a 5% surcharge.
We recommend bringing enough cash for your stay, as Lanquin has only one ATM and it may not always be working.
